Almost 20,000 welcome Modi

NEARLY 20,000 people welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sydney at Qudos Arena, after he unveiled a plaque to mark Parramatta’s emerging “Little India” precinct in Harris Park.

Joined by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister Modi received a thunderous applause at the community reception at Sydney Olympic Park.
State MP for Granville, Julia Finn, said she was delighted to meet Mr Modi, who is also a former Chief Minister of Gujarat, a State with which NSW has a Sister State relationship and the State from which many Indian Australians in her electorate emigrated.
She also represented Premier Chris Minns at the official ceremonial welcome to Mr Modi at Admiralty House in Sydney.
“I am proud to represent an incredibly diverse community where over half the local population is born overseas, with more people born in India than any other country except Australia,” Ms Finn said.
