Home energy assessor Adam Corrigan says it’s to make your home as airtight as possible so that the heating or cooling stays where it should.
Another important tip to help you slash 15 to 20 per cent off your power bill, is to turn off all power plugs at the wall when a device is not in use.
Adam will be discussing these tips and much more at two energy saving webinars, hosted by Cumberland Council, this month.
‘Solar Batteries’, where you can learn about the environmental benefits of solar power and what batteries would be suitable for your home, is on Thursday, October 13, 7-8pm.
‘Thermal Comfort in your Home’, where you can find out how to keep your house warm in the winter and cool in the summer while saving money on your energy bill, is on Thursday, October 20, 7-8pm.
Adam will be giving away a free home scorecard assessment at each workshop.
“By 2025, every house will have an energy-star rating so it’s a good idea to start now,” he said.
“In the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe, homes are subject to an airtightness test but we never worried about that here since our coal power source was so cheap until now.
“I will be discussing a range of strategies to help cut costs in the talks as well as touching on electric cars and what you need to know.”
