When Menai resident Simon Bradstock left the force 17 years ago, it wasn’t easy trying to decide what to do next and dealing with the loss of identity.
Luckily he had a great mentor who supported him and opened up his eyes to other possibilities.
However after losing a former colleague who took his own life, Simon decided to do what he could to help other first responders adjust to their new lives and founded not-for-profit charity Beyond The Badge.
“We are a group of former first responders who have been through the struggles of transition, have built successful careers and have extensive experience at senior management level across global companies, the government sector, large organisations and consulting services,” he said.
“Through the support of a large network of companies and individuals, we are able to offer a number of customised programs and services designed to ensure all first responders can find a new sense of purpose and succeed in their future endeavours.”
Recently receiving a Dooleys Clubgrant of $22,000, Simon said the funds would continue to be used to offer transitioning programs with the next three-day program on offer at Silverwater from April 4-6.
“We assist with resume and interview preparation, branding and face-to-face or zoom consulting, among many other supports,” he said.

Aid first responder on new life journey
MOST people wouldn’t think that big, strong police officers would have trouble finding work after leaving the force (they can do anything, right?) – but transitioning out of a uniform into a civilian role can be a struggle for many.
