Afford Auburn Day Program to open doors later this year

RESIDENTS living with disability will have more choice and support to develop skills and enjoy life when the Afford Auburn Day Program opens its doors later this year.
Afford (Australian Foundation for Disability) supports thousands of people across NSW every day to achieve their goals for home, work and life under the NDIS.
In Greater Sydney, five per cent of people need assistance in self-care, mobility and communication due to a health condition, disability or old age.
With a 70-year history of operating in Australia, the not-for-profit disability provider is opening the new Afford Day Program to advocate for opportunity, choice and inclusion for people of all abilities that are aged over 15.
Afford District Manager Belinda Smith says that the new Auburn Day Program has ample space to enjoy activities on-site and will provide easy access to community facilities.
“At Afford, we offer a variety of programs that support individuals to develop skills for independent living, social connections and employment,” Ms Smith said.

The service will include a full kitchen to facilitate healthy meal preparation and cooking programs, as well as a sensory room and games areas.
Community access will also form part of the activity schedule at Auburn Day Program.
“Getting out and about in the community encourages social and communication skills,” Ms Smith said.
“Just like other Afford services, Auburn Day Program will have a dedicated wheelchair accessible van so individuals can visit the park, museum and shopping centre among other community-based activities.
“Auburn has a thriving multicultural community and part of working in partnership with carers, involves supporting families to understand care services in their native language and recognising traditional and cultural celebrations,” Ms Smith said.
Afford has also established a Carers Program to provide support for carers of loved ones with disability.
