“I was completely shocked as there were so many other amazing young women in the room,” she said.
“I feel really proud to receive this award and think the judges selected me because of the national impact my work has had on health research and advocacy.”
Holding an Arts-Law degree, Betty is committed to youth engagement, justice and advocacy – not just for young people in Western Sydney but across Australia – as both a volunteer and employee.
She is the passionately committed coordinator and lead investigator for the Youth Commission of the NHMRC Wellbeing Health and Youth Centre of Research Excellence and plays an integral part in training and improving health outcomes for young people.
She has spent the last several years advocating for young people’s rights and engagement in the health system and in online safety.
“It’s rare to have a young person, like myself, in the industry and taking on a leadership role that helps create spaces where young people, clinicians and policy makers work together to co-create outcomes,” she said.
“I will be continuing to advocate for young people’s rights and concerns, and ensuring there are meaningful spaces for them to voice their concerns and engage with decision-makers.”
