Advice to beat thief

POLICE have urged people to be more mindful of their belongings in public places and to be wary of on-line auctions and other scams.

The advice follows the latest NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOSCAR) data which showed rises of seven per cent in both Steal from Person and Fraud offences within the Cumberland LGA over the 12 months to March 2019, compared with the same period in 2018.
However Auburn Police Area Command (PAC) Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Chris Laird, says the more confronting ‘bagsnatch’ offences did not appear to be a significant proportion of the Stealing from Person statistics, with nearly all offences involving wallets or handbags taken from prams or left on seats nearby on trains.
