Cultural showcase event at centre to welcome luck of Lunar New Year

RIVERWOOD Community Centre welcomed the Lunar New Year and ‘Year of the Tiger’ with a community celebration featuring cultural performances and a delicious lunch.

It has been organised by the Riverwood Community Centre and Canterbury Bankstown Harmony group for 16 years.
John Miao, from Riverwood Chinese Dancing Group, said: “The Lunar New Year celebration is intended to bring in luck and prosperity. It is an opportunity to look ahead to a new year that we hope will bring us good health, joy and good fortune.”
Cr Karl Saleh, who opened the event said: “The tiger represents courage, bravery and strength. With the many challenges we have been faced with over the last two years, it has been so rewarding to see our community come together as one and become so resilient. Courage, bravery and strength are the qualities that each and every member of our community has shown.
“Seeing the community coming together again and the smiles on faces makes me proud to live and work in Canterbury Bankstown City,” he said.
