Dance way to USA titles

IN proof that Bankstown is a breeding ground for superstars, sisters Alexis, 12, and Harlow French, 8, have won national titles in the KAR (Kids Artistic Review) National Dance Titles in California, USA.

Participants at Ignition Dance Academy Condell Park since it opened six years ago, Alexis was named Miss Teen Dance America while Harlow was Miss Petite Dance America runner up.
They both came first in their three age-group categories – High Elite Open, High Elite Lyrical and High Elite Broadway.
They also took part in a group team event in which they placed first as well.
After winning a place in the Australian national competition ‘Get the Beat’ last year, the sisters automatically qualified to be part of that team competing in the USA last month.
Interestingly, they also qualified and competed last year but came home without placing so it makes this year’s wins extra special, according to Ignition Academy’s Leigh Bezzina.
“It’s such a big deal and a huge achievement as it shows you don’t have to come from an affluent suburb to become among the best in the world,” she said.
“We’re providing such high quality training, even for children, right here in Condell Park.
“We are so proud of their efforts and the hard work they’ve put in with their teachers at Ignition.”
Both girls are now preparing for their next Australian national competition in October.
