From the displacement camps of Gaza under the bombardment of the Zionist war planes and tanks, film makers are working relentlessly for Palestinian cinema to help affirm the right to return to their lands.
Despite the hardships, director producer Saud Muhanna and director Yosef Khattab have set out to make films that document the life of exile and the stories of children and women in the Gaza Strip.
As well as showcasing multiple short films, the event will include a cultural musical session, light dinner and a consortium of Palestinian artwork displayed at the venue.
The Al Awda Film Festival is hosted by the Palestinian Film Forum, in collaboration with Palestinian Australians Welfare Association and Palestine Justice Movement Sydney.
One of the organisers, Sana Abo-Khalil says it’s important to reject campaigns of destruction and ethnic cleansing as they violate basic human rights and are against international law.
“Audience members will gain an understanding of the extent of the problem by case-studies presented to them based on real stories happening as they watch,” she said.
“The film festival will be both educational and entertaining facilitated by artistic productions utilising the skills of creative directors and personnel.”
Cost of tickets ($50) for the event which starts at 6pm and donations, will be used to cover organising costs and to help support families in Gaza.
