Hundreds of local residents raised their concerns with Mr Coleman about the safety of the intersection – particularly when exiting Georges River National Park.
The intersection has been a concern for many years, with residents telling Mr Coleman that visibility when exiting the National Park is poor due to the blind corner of Henry Lawson Drive, and that a set of traffic lights or a roundabout is needed to make the intersection safer in all directions.
Mr Coleman has raised their concerns with the Federal and the State governments, and also requested Canterbury Bankstown Council includes this location in its next application for Federal Funding in the Road Black Spot Program.
“The intersection of Henry Lawson Drive and The River Road is very dangerous, especially when exiting from the Georges River National Park,” Mr Coleman said.
“The lack of visibility in all directions impacts the safety of motorists and must be fixed.
“It is a serious safety issue, and action needs to be taken.”
Mr Coleman has written to the NSW Minister for Roads asking the Government to take action to improve safety at this intersection by installing traffic calming devices, but also to the council asking it to consider applying for Federal funding under the Black Spots program.
A council spokesperson said: “The council assesses crash data across the City when undertaking applications for funding and will take this location into consideration as part of its Project Management Framework planning process.”
