Free ‘Come and Try’ soccer ideal for girls

HELPING girls develop the values of respect, teamwork and fair play at a young age, Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) is inviting six to 13-year-olds to a free ‘Come and Try’ day at Padstow Park in February.

BDAFA’s Emma Kate Ingerson, 24, who plays for Blacktown Spartans in the W-League and is semi-professional, started her soccer career at a Come and Try day when she was six or seven-years-old.
“A friend invited me to one and I really enjoyed it; football has ended up being a big part of my life,” she said.
“It’s the best way to create friendships and learn core values like discipline and sportsmanship.
“It’s also perfect for physical fitness and mental health and there is no greater escape from life’s challenges than being on a soccer field, training or competing.”
Recommending all young females give soccer a go at the Come and Try day on Saturday, February 10, 9am-1pm, Emma Kate said participants would receive a Western Sydney Wanderers prize pack and those who enjoyed trying the basics, could register to play for a season at a local club.
“After the excitement of the Women’s World Cup, there has been an increase in female participants, and BDAFA hopes to continue this growth in 2024,” she said.
