In the lead-up to Christmas, Scouts, some as young as five, held a donation drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and collected boxes full of new toys, before wrapping and tagging the presents for the young patients.
RMHC provides life-changing holistic support to families with seriously sick and injured children, providing a home-away-from-home to more than 1,500 families each year.
“It’s important to support RMHC because they’re giving a home away from home for the families of the sick children so they can all be together,” scout Sophie Penisini, 10, said.
Scout Kaysanne Lockman, 8, said it was important to care for people who need help.
“It makes kids feel special and cared for when in hospital,” she said.
A RMHC spokesperson said they were overwhelmed by the generosity of the community and Merrylands Cub Scouts who helped spread the Christmas spirit.
