Undefeated Owl U10 side hailed as next Invincibles

SWEEPING all before them this season, winning every game, the minor premiership and the Grand Final premiership in the Parramatta district competition, the Guildford Owls U10 division 1 team are being described as future national stars.

Owls Treasurer Clay White said that on the 1982 Kangaroo tour, the Australian team played 22 matches and were undefeated.
That team featured a dynamic five-eight from the Guildford Owls who kept Wally Lewis on the bench and later went on to become one of the games immortals – Brett (Burt) Kenny.
“That unbeatable team was given the title ‘The Invincibles’,” White said.
“Forty-one years later there is a new team that has put in its claim for that title. They are not a national team; they don’t even play full field – but they are no less invincible.”
He said it was difficult comprehending the magnitude of the U10s’ achievements without looking at the results of each game.
“In the regular season the team averaged 37.3 points a game while conceding on average 3.3 points,” he said.
“All season they showed their ability to score points at will, however it was their defence that won the games for them.
“They also won all of their ‘training games’, including against Bankstown Sports and others as well as beating an U11 team.”
White said it was a team full of stars who benefited from a highly dedicated coaching staff and parent group.
“The coaches and trainers need to be congratulated,” he said.
“There are names in this team that everybody will soon know and remember! They are the new ‘Invincibles’.”
