The initiative was launched as part of ‘Welcoming Week’ in September last year and offers about 20-25 residents who have recently arrived in Australia or new to Canterbury Bankstown, primarily from refugee backgrounds, a tour of council facilities, including pools and libraries, parks and points of interest, such as hospitals, shopping centres and schools.
The tours – one of which included Sefton Golf Course last week – will be operating every quarter, rotating through each ward, and includes morning tea and a picnic lunch.
“Many former refugees call City of Canterbury Bankstown home and we are committed to welcoming all migrants and refugees to our City,” a council spokesperson said.
