They said that since the reintroduction of the toll on the M4 almost six years ago, there had been increased traffic on local roads with motorists (“rat runners”) using them to avoid excessive tolls and congestion on Parramatta Road.
The study by Transport for NSW of traffic in Granville, South Granville, Auburn and Lidcombe, will have a special emphasis on the traffic flow across the Duck River at Wellington Road and Mona Street.
Ms Finn said the study, alongside the NSW Labor announcement that 51,000 drivers each week will have more and better toll relief under the introduction a $60 weekly toll cap, would go a long way to help to ease the burden across local roads.
Ms Voltz said that congestion on Parramatta Road at Auburn, which had been voted the worse road in NSW thanks to the reintroduction of the M4 tolls by the previous Liberal Government, had created chaos across the region.
“Over the last four years I have received constant complaints that a simple trip from Granville to Auburn can now take up to an hour during peak times trying to get across the Duck River,” she said.
Welcome $1m traffic study
THE State Government’s $1 million investment to solve the traffic chaos in Auburn and Granville would be welcomed by frustrated residents and motorists, according to State MPs Lynda Voltz (Auburn) and Julia Finn (Granville).
