Firms invited to nominate for ‘Zero Barriers’ Awards

IS your business or service inclusive and accessible? Nominations are now open for the Zero Barriers Business Excellence Awards 2023, with Matchworks Bankstown among those leading the way.

Hosted by the Multicultural Network, the awards recognise businesses and services that have made an exceptional commitment to be more accessible and inclusive of their whole community.
Matchworks Community Engagement Manager Gerard Hayes says that being a disability employment provider for about 10 years in Bankstown, they were among the first to become truly accessible.
“We have a specific entrance suitable for people with a disability, wide doorways and lifts, level surfaces for wheelchair access, an ambulatory toilet and disability car parking onsite with access by arrangement plus more,” he said.
Gerard says they can also advise other businesses on how to become more accessible as they have done in the past.
“It’s a very worthy thing for businesses to do, ensuring their premises or services are accessible to all in the community,” he said.
“Businesses can even apply for funding to modify their premises; everyone should get involved.”
NSW business or service winners will be chosen in the categories of Social Access and Inclusion, Physical Access and Inclusion, Communication and Marketing and inclusive Employer.
Businesses can self-nominate or be nominated by a community member.
The awards will be held on June 6, with all businesses and services encouraged to take the online self-assessment beforehand and nominate for an award at zerobarriers.net.au.
With free membership, award nominations close 5pm, Friday, May 19.
