Seek witness over murder of woman

POLICE are appealing for help with their investigation into the brutal death of a 42-year-old woman in Merrylands.

Erin Gilbert was found by police on Sunday, April 9, about 11.30pm, in a pool of blood and “suffering very serious and severe injuries” in her unit Newman Street.
Detectives, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, formed Strike Force Trevelyan to investigate the suspicious death, and have conducted a number of ground searches in the Merrylands area, including the vicinity of the crime scene.
Cumberland Police Area Commander, Superintendent Andrew Holland said when police arrived at the unit, Ms Gilbert’s partner was performing CPR.
Neighbours have told police they heard Ms Gilbert talking the night of her death and are “concerned someone else may have been at the unit block with her”.
“Unfortunately we don’t know the exact cause of death at this point,” he said.
Supt Holland said people didn’t realise that something they saw days prior, may lead police down the right path to finalising the investigation.
“The smallest amount information could be the biggest amount of information,” he said. “We are asking the community who may have known her last movements to call Crimestoppers.”
Police have spoken to her husband who was released without charge.
