BlueFit Swimming splashes out with extra training during PJ Safety Week

THE weather did not dampen the spirits of 30,000 kids nationwide including swimmers from BlueFit Swimming Bankstown, when they all donned their PJs in an effort to learn safety skills in all situations.

Wearing pyjamas and other clothing is a huge contributor to drownings in Australia each year which was the focus of PJ Safety Week at the end of March.
Learning to swim is simply not enough, as real water safety requires the ability to be able to swim fully clothed, without goggles and in varying circumstances and environments.
One of Australia’s leading learn-to-swim providers, BlueFit Swimming is committed to the safety of their local communities, which is why Pyjama Water Safety Week is regularly incorporated into their learn-to-swim program.
Swimmers learnt how it felt to be fully clothed in the water and how to float and tread water as well as survival sequences, strokes and basic rescue techniques.
Bluefit General Manager Michele Eason said the littlest students wore t-shirts while more experienced swimmers were decked out in PJs for the entire week.
“Being in the water fully clothed is a completely different swim experience,” she said.
“These skills are simply to offer additional focus on water safety and education in a supportive and controlled environment, with our goal to provide the best possible water safety outcomes for our students which could ultimately save a child’s life.”
