The Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize is an annual writing competition with an overall prize pool of $10,000 including age category winners and it’s an opportunity to tell your story, responding to this year’s theme, ‘The Other City’.
To help you get on your way, Granville Library will host writing workshops conducted by WestWords in the school holidays from April 11-18 for children (10-12 years, 13-15 years and 16-18 years) and adults on April 20, 2-3.30pm.
Author of children’s books including ‘Walking Your Human’, Liz Ledden will facilitate the first workshop on April 11 and says her role will be mainly to help children generate story ideas.
“With the theme, ‘The Other City’, stories can be about where you live, where you used to live, where you’d like to live or some place that you’ve dreamt up,” she said.
“It’s very exciting as there’s no limit to what you can talk about in your story and it might just be the start of getting some budding young writers on their way.
“Everyone should book for a workshop.”
Entries, up to a 500-word maximum, close at midnight on Sunday, April 30; for more info and to enter, go to westwords.com.au.
With numbers limited for the writing workshops, book early by calling 8757 9061 or emailing library.events@cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
