Students splash out for victories

STUDENTS are excelling in and out of the water, bagging an impressive medal haul at the Sydney South West Secondary Swimming Championships earlier this month.

Picnic Point High School’s Thomas Valassis came first in the Boys 12-14 years 200m, with the school coming second in the Boys 13 years 4x50m freestyle relay, student Cassandra Christenson came third in the Girls 12-14 years 200m, the school came third in the Girls 15 years 4x50m freestyle relay and student Holly Fahlstrom was the Multi-Age Champion.
East Hills Boys High School’s Marco Naidovski was the 12 years Age Champion, with the school coming first in the Boys 16 years 4x50m freestyle relay and student Jakub Fenik came third in the Boys 12-14 years 200m event.
Sefton High School’s James Ang came third in the Boys 17-19 years 200m event, while East Hills Girls High School’s scored two thirds in the Girls 13 years 4x50m freestyle relay and the Girls 14 years 4x50m freestyle relay.
East Hills Girls High’s Relieving Head Teacher PDHPE Louisa Bailey says they are extremely proud of their girls who make a great team.
“We are thrilled with the success of our students at the SSW Regional Carnival,” she said.
“It is great that their hard work, commitment and enthusiasm have been rewarded and we are excited to see how they go in the next round.”
East Hills Girls student Bianca said: “I am proud of our relay team’s achievement and looking forward to State titles.”
Savannah said: “I am excited we get to represent SSW in the next level. I will definitely still keep swimming and compete next year.”
