Amazing efforts see records smashed

BANKSTOWN Sports Athletics Club (BSAC) athletes have produced remarkable performances at the Australian 3000 metres and National Master’s Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

BSAC’s international superstar, Jessica Hull smashed her own Australian record by over 4 seconds when storming to victory in the Australian 3000 metres championship race.
Following her stellar performance at the recent World Cross Country Championships, where Australia captured the team Bronze Medal, Hull clocked in an astonishing 8 minutes 31.81 seconds and has clearly cemented herself as Australia’s premier middle-distance, female athlete.
Hull’s teammate, Cameron Myers also produced a jaw-dropping performance in the National Men’s 3000 metres championship. Competing against many of Australia’s elite Open athletes along with 2016 Rio Olympic 1500m Champion, Matt Centrowitz, Myers’ time of 7 minutes 52.06 seconds not only obliterated the under 18 Australian Record by 9 seconds, it also set a new under 20 National record.
This followed his victory in February at the Maurie Plant Classic in Melbourne, where the 16-year-old became the second youngest ever to break the four-minute mile record.
In the Australian Masters Athletics Championships, BSAC Athlete and Coach, David Diep, produced a brilliant, opening leg in the final of the 4 x 100m Over 45 years relay.
This race saw the NSW team smash a 24-year-old record in running a superb 45.68 seconds.
David’s performance followed his stellar run of 7.40 seconds in capturing an individual Silver Medal in the Over 45 years, 60 metres National final.
BSAC President, Colin Whitbread, said it was a magnificent month of results for BSAC.
“Our club is extremely proud to have athletes of the calibre of Jess, Cam and David within our ranks,” he said.
