Gillespie grew up just about as far away from Peter Allen as it’s possible to get and yet has an uncanny affinity for the music of this extraordinary singer-songwriter.
From his roots in rural Australia to marriage with Liza Minnelli and writing some of his era’s most evocative songs, Allen’s short life was truly well-lived.
His beautifully crafted songs are brought into a fresh, new spotlight in this exciting and sensitive interpretation.
“Peter’s songs serve so well to tell the story of the ‘Boy From Oz’ in this very personal, very intimate cabaret,” Gillespie says.
“From working as Judy Garland’s opening act [‘Quiet Please – There’s a Lady Onstage’], to international stardom as an openly flamboyant and controversial artist, the songs take us on a journey through life, love and finally having to say the saddest goodbye of all.”
Gillespie has spent over 30 years as a full-time professional performer and creative artist – it’s this experience which makes this show, backed by a live band, something very special.
With doors open at 10am, book for the Saturday, April 1, show ($10 for members, $15 for guests) at dooleys.com.
