Gardeners celebrate arrival of ‘wife’ for scarecrow

LONELY for the last 10 years in the Chester Hill Community Garden, Chester Scrap – the scarecrow – finally has a ‘wife’ Hilary who arrived to take up her place by his side last Saturday.

Hosting an Open Day to celebrate the event, Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre (CHNC) unveiled the new scarecrow which was made from recycled materials by Selma Fida and local children as well as Liverpool Men’s Shed members who built the frame.
Along with Cr Rachelle Harika and State MP for Auburn, Lynda Voltz, about 30 families attended to meet Hilary and enjoy a treasure hunt, a range of crafts and a tour of the garden.
CHNC project officer Monira Ajami thanked all for their efforts.
“We hope that Chester and Hilary will be a great feature of the Chester Hill Community Garden for many years to come,” she said.
Providing before and after school care for five schools in the surrounding area, CHNC also offers a range of activities and programs to families, youth and older people.
