Mini Rabs ready for season of surprises

A YOUNG Revesby footy commentator was among the many who couldn’t believe his eyes when Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs were leading 26-0 against the Storm at half-time before going on to take the round 2 win.

If you’re a 2GB listener, you might remember ‘Mini Rabs’ – Michael Ponticello was just 10-years-old when he started doing rugby league commentary and going up against ’The Big Marn’ (Darryl Brohman) with his tips.
‘Mini Rabs’ has now started university, studying Communications and Media, and is hoping to launch a professional footy commentating career.
He’s already enjoyed a few shifts with 2GB radio and been interviewed on Channel 9 but is hoping to firm up regular broadcast work.
The mad footy fan said he thoroughly enjoyed all the highs and lows of last weekend.
“I was so happy for the Bulldogs when I heard that Cameron Ciraldo was the new coach because they’ve had a rough trot,” Michael said.
“I saw him at Penrith and I think he will be a great coach; all the players seem to really respect him and what he is doing.
“I think this will be a great year for the Bulldogs to get back on the road to the top and if not this year, then definitely next year.”
In fact, Michael believes the Bulldogs are the ones to watch along with Manly Sea Eagles; he believes both teams have a strong chance at making the top eight.
“The Dolphins have been a big surprise too but under Wayne Bennett, they will probably go far in their debut season,” he said.
“Otherwise I think the top eight will be similar to last year – Panthers, Storm, Sharks, Cowboys, Roosters, Rabbitohs, Eels and then the Bulldogs, Manly or Dolphins.
“The competition is as close as ever this year and I’m excited to see who surprises us along the way.”
