Helping over 4,000 people since 2019, Picnic Point mental health nurse Keith established Keith’s Closet to provide patients with clothing (as opposed to a hospital gown), dignity and a self esteem boost.
“[Before Keith’s Closet] we might have given them clothing left here by others … or they might just have some sort of robe to wear, which isn’t the way forward at all.
“I wanted to change that.”
The clothing stocked in Keith’s Closet is donated from staff, sporting teams, such as Revesby Workers’ Football Club – of which Keith is a member – and the public.
Keith says they run a mobile clothing van too and keep small household items to get people on their feet again.
The Westfield Local Hero winner in 2021 has also been nominated this year and hopes to raise enough funds to get a warehouse to stock more items and give former patients some paid work.
“So many just don’t have a reason to get up in the morning,” he said.
“We are really here now for anyone needing help, not just mental health patients.”
