Inviting all to free game of Scrabble

REVESBY’S Peter Griffiths can’t understand why more aren’t keen to indulge in one of life’s most inexpensive yet enjoyable pleasures – Scrabble – which also keeps your brain fit and firing.

A member of the Revesby Scrabble Group which meets on Tuesdays from 7pm at Revesby Workers’ Club, he says numbers have dwindled to about half a dozen members but they had three new players turn up last week, one of whom had never played before.
“It was her first time so all of her words were very short but she said she had so much fun and would definitely be back,” Peter said.
Flying the flag for the Revesby, he is heading to the Australian Scrabble Championships in Melbourne over the Easter weekend.
“It will be fairly challenging as I’ll be playing eight games in three days,” he said.
“I took part in the championships previously in Canberra and Sydney and came about halfway in the competition in Canberra and only won six out of 24 games here but I keep trying as I’ve met so many great people along the way.”
In Scrabble, you have to solve a logical problem in each turn of play so, even if you do not win the game, you derive a great sense of achievement from playing it, according to Peter.
“Training your memory leads to improved cognitive capacity, which means that your brain will be more efficient when dealing with challenging tasks,” he said.
“Scrabble also helps improve your emotional well-being and confidence.”
Turn up for a game on Tuesday night – it’s free to play – or for more info, call Peter on 0432 638 994.
