Just after 6.30am today (Thursday, March 2), emergency services were called to Carlingford Street, Sefton, following reports of a shooting and found Taha Sabbagh, 40, suffering gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene.
A worker from a nearby business said a child was heard screaming after the shooting.
“The were a lot of bullet holes in the car,” he said.
A crime scene has been established, which is being examined by specialist forensic officers.
Detectives, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
