Man shot dead at Auburn cop shop

A MAN shot by police after he allegedly threatened officers with a knife at Auburn Police Station just after midnight, died in hospital a short time later.

It followed a frenzied attack on a 28-year-old cleaner at Auburn Train Station minutes earlier.
Police said shortly after midnight, a man, 32, living in Auburn on a Students’ Visa since 2019, entered Auburn Railway Station and launched a frenzied attack on a cleaner, who was stabbed in his left arm. The cleaner fell to the ground and was again attacked and slashed. He is in a stable condition.
Minutes later the 32-year-old was seen near the front of Auburn Police Station and when two officers responding to calls to the earlier attack walked out of the station the man attempted to attack them.
The officers retreated into the police station and when threatened again a senior male officer fired three shots, two hitting the man in the chest.
Officers immediately performed first aid on the man until paramedics arrived. He was taken to Hospital but died a short time later.
Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith, Commander South West Metropolitan Region said CCTV footage of the attack is highly concerning.
“He launched at and tried to attack the two officers,” he said.
“I fully support these officers, it’s traumatic, it’s a significant incident at one of our police stations.
“They’re getting significant counselling support.”
A critical incident investigation is now underway and Commissioner Smith said they will leave no stone unturned.
