The toll cap would be on top of the existing toll rebate and M5 cashback schemes and would commence on January 1, 2024, with any tolls charged above the cap refunded on a quarterly basis.
Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, Greg Warren, said the excessive tolls placed on the region’s residents had a dire impact on the budget of many households and businesses.
“This relief package will make a huge difference to the hip pockets of many residents and small businesses,” he said.
To further help families reduce their costs of living, Labor said it would create a new state-owned body that would accelerate investment in renewable energy assets and make sure NSW got its share of community batteries.
Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change and candidate for the State seat of Bankstown, Jihad Dib, said only one in 60 households had solar have batteries, mainly due to prohibitive costs.
“This initiative solves that problem for families,” he said.
