Discover colours of health to stay younger longer

YOU are what you eat and eating colourful, fresh food every day can significantly brighten your prospects for a longer and healthier life.

Fruits and veggies are colourful for reasons that go beyond looking pretty, according to Amar Food for health founder, Yeni Ochoa.
She will conduct ‘The Colours of Health’ workshop at the Granville Centre on Thursday, March 2, 6-8pm, as part of the Soul and Wellbeing Encounters series by House to Grow, in partnership with Cumberland Council.
She says the pigments in fruit and vegetables are actually phytonutrients, or plant compounds, that function both to protect plants as they grow and protect us as well.
“In addition to the vitamins, minerals and fibre that fruits and vegetables provide, you also get the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of those colourful phytonutrients,” she said.
“This helps your body fight the effects of ageing and disease.”
At the workshop, you will learn how to establish healthy eating habits and review the health benefits of eating by colour as well as learning about the physiological functions of bioactive pigments.
Growing up in Peru with more than 3,000 varieties of potatoes alone, Yeni says it is not surprising she developed a thirst to learn more about the peculiar colours that made them unique and began training as a medical laboratory professional.
“I firmly believe that our health achieves resilience by including variety, therefore colours,” she said.
