Dogs come out barking

THE Bulldogs thrashed St George Dragons 54-4 in front of a home crowd at Belmore in the opening round of the 2023 NSWRL Harvey Norman’s Women’s Premiership.

Mahalia Murphy opened the scoring in the third minute but the Bulldogs had to work hard to get the next two before heading into the break with a 14-4 lead.
It was slow and steady in the first half but the Dog’s turned up the pressure in the second to run in eight more tries.
Coach Luke Goodwin said it’s been a long two years’ wait to get on the field but he’s excited to be back.
“To bring a whole new squad of 30 girls in and make them connect and come together has had its challenges – but we believe from day one at our induction what we put in place worked,” Goodwin said.
“They’ve come together really well, and the connections have been outstanding … I’m very proud of them.
“If you can create an environment where girls feel valued and comfortable they will play well, and become better people.”
Goodwin is encouraging fans to turn out and show their support for the women, “they play an exciting brand of footy, throw the ball around and enjoy”.
It was a great first up win for new captain Gayle Broughton, who says the Bulldogs have what it takes to go all the way.
“The girls are an awesome bunch,” the New Zealand rugby international said.
“There’s so much talent.
“When I first met Luke, I just knew it was right.”
With extended family living in Revesby, Broughton, who has ”always wanted to be a Bulldog”, has plenty of local fans screaming support from the stands.
The Bulldogs will take on the Rabbitohs this Saturday, 3pm, at Redfern Oval.
