Matt Fitzgerald (34) and Aryan Rodrigues (24) steadied the ship and played crucial knocks, helping to get Bankstown to within 11 runs from victory when Matt’s wicket fell.
A last wicket partnership of 11 got Bankstown home with McCall icing the game in the 49th over with 2 big shots down the ground for boundaries.
Strong efforts also came from Daniel Louka, Tomas Cordingley, Thomas Forrester, Jack Ashburner, Luca Croft, Taran Shah and Muhammad Talha.
The celebrations continued afterwards with “Who Let the Dogs Out” blasting as they proudly carried the shield along a packed Bondi Beach.
“We would also like to recognise all of the players, officials and in particular, our coaches Mick Reynolds and Matt Lewis who have expertly guided the U17s Bankstown Watson side to two Grand Finals and now a Premiership,” team manager Adam Condon said.
Bankstown U17 side wins Watson Shield
LIVING up to expectations, Bankstown District Cricket Association’s U17 NSW Youth Championship side (pictured) won their Grand Final and the Watson Shield on Sunday against Eastern Suburbs.
Bankstown won by 1 wicket in the 2nd last over at Waverley Oval.
Bowling first, Bankstown restricted Eastern Suburbs to 169 with ‘Player of the Match’ Reagan Sidhu (4/50), Artav Ramankanth (2/41) and Callum McCall (3/19) starring with the ball.
In response, Bankstown fell to 6/91 in reply after a controversial dismissal of Bankstown Captain Max Condon (21) which triggered a mini batting collapse.
