Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said he was thrilled to see so many people embrace the culture, customs and beliefs of our incredible Asian community.
“We’re lucky to have such a large Vietnamese and Chinese community here in Canterbury Bankstown, and it was fitting that we acknowledged both the Year of the Rabbit and the Year of the Cat,” Mayor Asfour said.
“There was something for people of all ages to join in and enjoy. The traditional lion dance, dragon parade and fire twirling made for an exciting spectacle and there was no shortage of delicious food on offer.”
City of Canterbury Bankstown will also celebrate Lunar New Year on Saturday, February 4, with the Campsie Lunar Noodle Markets, where you can enjoy your favourite cuisine and a night filled with cultural entertainment, including roving characters, the God and Goddess of fortune handing out lucky envelopes, free kids face painting and the traditional lion dance parading through the Mall and Anzac Park.
