Pedestrian death charge

A MAN has been charged after an elderly pedestrian was struck and killed in Bankstown.

About 3.30pm, on Friday, December 23, emergency services were called to the corner of Lopez Lane and Raymond Street, Bankstown, following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a 4WD.
The 95-year-old woman was treated by paramedics but died at the scene, while the 66-year-old man who was driving the 4WD was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Upon his release he was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
His licence was also suspended.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in court on February 1.

Suspend officer over assault
A SENIOR police officer has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The officer, attached to a specialist command, was arrested on January 6 after an investigation by the Professional Standards Command regarding an arrest in Bankstown on Friday, July 22.
The 34-year-old has been suspended with his employment status under review. He will appear in court next month.

Unlicensed with child on lap
A WOMAN has been charged after she was allegedly detected driving while holding a mobile phone, and with a small child seated on her lap in Bankstown.
The charge came after Georges River Traffic and Highway Patrol received a referral from Transport for NSW, regarding an image taken on a Mobile Phone Detection Camera situated in Bankstown last month.
The image allegedly depicted a female driver in a Queensland-registered motor vehicle holding a mobile phone with a small child seated on her lap, unrestrained, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
After speaking with the 28-year-old woman, who holds a Queensland ‘learner’ licence, she was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, driver use mobile phone when not permitted, Drive with a six months to four-year-old not restrained as prescribed, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, and driver not wear seatbelt properly adjusted/fastened.

Motorcyclist in collision arrest
A CYCLIST was seriously injured in a collision with a motorcycle at the Lansdowne Reserve, Georges Hall.
The motorcycle and cyclist were riding in opposite directions along a bicycle track when they collided with one another about 5.40pm on Sunday, December 18.
Paramedics treated a 34-year-old man at the scene for serious injuries to his arm, before he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The 18-year-old rider of the motorcycle was not injured.
He was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing and the motorcycle was seized for mechanical and forensic examination.
He was later charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and fail to comply with council notice.
