Holroyd Little Athletes run way to gold medals

THE future of Holroyd Little Athletic Centre is well assured when you consider the results of the youngest athletes’ performances at the recent Mid West Metropolitan Zone Championships in which six centres competed.

Their youngest competitors in the under 7s group, won multiple medals, with Jessica Leke winning four gold medals in the 70m, 100m, 200m and the Long Jump.
Her performances compared so favourably to the next age group, the under 8s, that she has qualified in all her events at that level in February’s regional championships.
Her older siblings, Jacob and Claire, both qualified in all four of their events at the next level too and are set to also take on the region’s best in 2023.
“The family is a great asset to the club with father Peter helping to coach and also starting races on Friday nights,” a club spokesperson said.
“Both parents migrated from the Sudan in 2003.”
Holroyd Little As also had 32 athletes in total and both boys relay teams qualifying for the championships, where they are looking forward to further success.
Training at Holroyd Sports Ground, Holroyd LAC resumes this Friday, January 13.
