Service for fallen at Pearl Harbor

A SMALL crowd gathered at the cenotaph in Court House Reserve last Wednesday, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (pictured).

As it has done for many years, Canterbury Bankstown City Council together with the Bankstown RSL Sub Branch and Yanks Down Under Post No 1, conducted the service.
More than 3,000 American servicemen and civilians were killed or wounded in the attacks on December 7, 1941. From 1942 to 1944, Bankstown Airport was the base for members of the 35th and 49th Pursuit Groups of the United States Army Air Force.
