Appalled over lack of decorations

IT hasn’t been feeling a lot like Christmas in Regents Park and Lidcombe, with one councillor appalled at the lack of decorations.

However, more Christmas decorations are being installed after an urgent request by Councillor Helen Hughes.
Cr Hughes said initially, she received complaints from residents regarding the lack of bunting decorations in Berala, and the only decoration was the Christmas tree at the front of the Berala Community Centre.
“It felt not at all like the time of year,” she said.
“People who spoke to me indicated engagement, acceptance and appreciation of other cultural events that are decorated in town centres – Lunar New Year, Diwali and Eid being mentioned – and yet nothing for Christmas.
“This is appalling.”
And then there’s Lidcombe, where she says there are banners on the south side, “but fairly ‘dull’ looking and a Christmas tree – which she believes is smaller than those in the past – in Remembrance Park, and no decorations on the north side”.
“Frankly, the fact that Regents Park Ward has not been reasonably decorated across all the town centres is disgraceful – there are four town centres, all of which are not appropriately addressed,” she said.
“And Merry Christmas to all.”
A council spokesperson says more Christmas decorations are being installed.
