Parking’s a big concern

COMMUTER and long term parking has frustrated residents living close to the Lidcombe town centre.

However, there are plans for a residential car parking scheme (RPS), and residents are being asked to comment with consultations concluding this Friday.
The area covers the residential properties within Rawson Street, Maud Street and Yarram Street on the north and Raymond Street East on the south and all streets within.
Cumberland Councillor Helen Hughes said residents are experiencing difficulty within their own neighbourhood with the lack of available residential parking in public spaces near their property.
“Many residents need to park their vehicles, at times, an unacceptable distance from their homes – creating a concern of safety and added time constraints as residents drive around their area to find a parking spot,” Cr Hughes said.
“Frustratingly, as there is no timed parking in many streets, and the spaces are often used by commuters, access to some businesses, including childcare, has in sufficient parking availability.
“Out of desperation, cars are at times double parked in order for people to quickly enter businesses, or for the children to be taken to child care. This is not ideal.”
Residents and businesses are encouraged to complete the survey and share their thoughts.
Consultation concludes this Friday (December 9). Details: haveyoursay.cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
