Young taking first steps into ‘big school’ earlier

GIVING children a chance to meet future classmates and get familiar in the classroom environment they will be part of next year, St Euphemia College Bankstown opened its doors over two weeks earlier this month to prospective students and families.

Deputy Principal Elizabeth Xanthoudakis said workshops provided parents and caregivers with information to help them get their children ready for the beginning of their journey to Kindergarten. “Orientation sessions were also a chance for the new students to take part in classes with the Kindergarten teachers and immerse themselves in lessons and activities to help them build their confidence in preparation for ‘big school’,” she said. The Kindergarten orientation fortnight followed popular Book Week celebrations at the college, in which staff and students spend a “glorious” week immersed in quality literature and sharing stories of students’ favourite books and characters.
“Our students take us on their journey with their costumes and dress ups and teachers join in on the fun by also dressing up and hosting a range of activities which show children the true joy that books bring to our lives,” Ms Xanthoudakis said.
