A member of Canterbury SES Unit for 38 years and eight months and Unit Controller since 2011, Lenore led multiple, large-scale operations both in Sydney and in regional NSW, most notably during the Western NSW floods.
During the Sydney October 2016 storms, the local unit was inundated with over 500 jobs across three days, with Lenore leading her team through each challenging day with humility, compassion and dedication. She always ensured the residents of Canterbury got the help they needed and that her unit volunteers were looked after and had the right equipment required to complete their tasks safely, according to her unit.
Deputy Unit Controller Alex Biasotto said her constant drive to improve the facilities for her members were evident throughout the years, and her persistence paid off in mid-2022 as the local unit was presented with a new, purpose-built facility.
“Unfortunately, Lenore never really got the chance to enjoy the new facility once it had been handed over, however unit members for years to come will remember Lenore for her persistence and dedication towards improving local facilities and for her years of selfless service to the Canterbury area,” he said.
“Lenore leaves a big hole in our operation, she knew how the system worked and was so kind-hearted and dedicated to the end.
“She really felt like one of our family and we will forever be grateful to her.”
She is survived by a son and two daughters.
Lenore’s funeral will be held at the Wanda Surf Club on Monday, December 5, at 10am.
