Hosting a range of classes this year through the Active Kids Voucher program, the group also offers bootcamps, swimming and painting sessions as well as personal development workshops for women including learn to drive and parenting classes, hair styling through TAFE, sewing, henna and using essential oils to boost mental health as well as create organic household products such as laundry powders, soaps and detergents.
Women and children have also just completed a painting program and created works based on the theme, ‘Tolerance over Intolerance’ which was exhibited at Lakemba Senior Citizens Hall on November 14, ahead of the International Day for Tolerance on November 16.
ISWA organiser Meher Sultana says there were over 100 artworks and dozens of community members enjoyed the artistic showcase on the day.
“It’s truly amazing how far the participants have come, from just being taught the basics and some simple painting techniques, they produced some really stunning works, and their confidence has really blossomed,” she said.
“We want to share our artwork and spread the message of our project, which is promoting peace and tolerance as much as we can, to the wider community.”
