Invented and built at Rapid Response Revival (RRR) on Bonds Road, Riverwood, this pocket-sized defibrillator, called the CellAED, is the world’s smallest and has regulatory approval in over 70 countries.
Australia has just received its first with RRR inventors Donovan Casey and Erol Teber donating one to Bonds Road Cafe Espresso, their local coffee shop, saying “safety starts at home and this is where we live”.
Although there are already defibrillators made for the home, the inventors created this smaller, more affordable version which costs just $359, after Donovan’s wife went into cardiac arrest at home.
Knowing that 50 Australians die every day at home after a heart attack, the inventors are keen to see every home installed with one.
“It’s designed to be deployed very quickly,” a spokesperson said.
“You snap it open, peel back sides and stick it to a bare chest. It then ‘wakes up’ and gives instructions to the user as well as scanning the heart to see if a shock is needed and completing one if necessary until emergency services arrive.
“The CellAED will give you the best chance of survival.”
Bonds Road Cafe Espresso owners Faye and Jean Saoud are thrilled with their life-saving gift.
“It’s another reason for people to come into our shop,” Faye said.
“Everyone feels a lot safer and happier having it, after all most people over a certain age have got some heart issues or another.”

IT’S about the size of a block of chocolate and just as sweet when it comes to the difference between life or death if someone goes into cardiac arrest.
