“During his time studying and teaching overseas, Tee witnessed people living in poverty and wanted to help,” a KMART Roselands spokesperson said.
“In 2018 he took over a small donation of clothes and food to a village in Fiji. He promised he would be back to help other villages but in 2019, Covid struck and everything was put on hold.”
He returned to Australia and started worked at Kmart Roselands but his dream to help did not stop.
He shared his goal with management and staff and together they helped Tee collect 646kg of goods to take to Fiji last month.
“Tee used all of his savings to pay for transporting the boxes of clothing and food but it wasn’t enough so he sold his car to cover costs,” the spokesperson said.
“He said after seeing the faces of the children light up and the emotional parents, the sacrifices he made were more than worth it.”
This generous fundraising initiative followed store manager Joel Robbins raising $1,435 in the Push Up Challenge for Mental Health in June.
“Mental health awareness is very important especially in the pandemic,” he told staff at a morning tea following his efforts.
“Take the time to ask friends and colleagues whether they are ok.”
Staff also raised $1,086 at a high tea breast cancer fundraiser in May.
