The invitation comes from Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour who says the Parry Park Playspace is a spectacular new playground “with all the bells and whistles to keep the kids happy”, including swings, a climbing tower, bike paths, a water-sand play area as well as a new amenity building and a picnic area.
“It’s what the community wanted, and we know it was money well spent,” he said.
“I know the local community will really treasure this beautiful space for many years.”
The Mayor officially opened the park and was thrilled to see kids of all ages enjoying the new play equipment and bike path, saying when he brings his children he might even have a go himself.
The opening ceremony began with a traditional “smoking ceremony” before the unveiling of a special plaque.
It’s one of three parks to be upgraded, and includes Earlwood Oval, which will get a new playing surface, practice wickets, playground, half a basketball court, and new irrigation system and drainage by early next year, while Hurlstone Memorial Reserve will offer a new community space, including a multi-purpose meeting room, covered outdoor breakout space, toilet facilities and a kitchenette – perfect for local community group gatherings.
“It’s something the local community has been crying out for and it won’t be long before they’ll be able to use their new facility,” Mayor Asfour said.
