Volunteer coaches needed

CAN you coach soccer or swimming and have a few hours to spare a week?

The Recreation Sports and Aquatic Club (RSAC), a not-for-profit group that supports children and adults with disability, is in desperate need of volunteers across the board but especially in these two most popular sporting programs.
RSAC president Vanessa Fone says members, around 1,200 aged from four to 70 years, are slowly returning following two years of Covid disruptions but many volunteers have not.
“A lot have moved out of the area or chosen to put volunteering on hold so we would love to hear from others who have a bit of time to help,” she said.
Started by local mum and swim coach, Jenny Bombardier, over 30 years ago, RSAC offers three swimming programs, cooking, karate, soccer, basketball, bocce, tennis, indoor soccer, cricket, drama and more.
With holiday camps on offer too, RSAC aims to be a “for life” organisation where people can move between activities as their interests change with many being members for over 25 years.
“There have been many incredible outcomes too like the child that wouldn’t leave the house who is now into everything,” Jenny said.
“Here, they are fully accepted, supported and encouraged; their self esteem goes up and the whole attitude of the family changes – it’s a wonderful reward.”
To support RSAC, the community is invited to a fun Trivia Night fundraiser on Saturday, June 18, 7-10pm, at Mount Lewis Bowling Club.
Cost is $20 a person, with a range of great prizes on offer.
