Welcome scholarships so gifted stay at school

TWO gifted female students from Chester Hill High School – Amina Rezaie and Zainab Fade – are among 70 NSW recipients of a life-changing scholarship worth more than $20,000 to help them stay, and excel, in school.
The scholarships are awarded to high potential girls, who are experiencing low socio-economic circumstances, through the Harding Miller Education Foundation.
Executive Director Cara Varian says the Foundation’s scholarships provide the girls with a new laptop, high speed internet connections, tutoring, career guidance and support to help cover the costs of uniforms, books and school expenses.
“Where these young women have faced barriers, we are offering them a pathway through school and also potentially to university,” Ms Varian said.

Amina Rezaie said the scholarship would offer real, tangible help.
“When I started school in Australia I didn’t know what to expect, I had limited experience and no English,” she said.
“Both of my parents are illiterate, so they could not help me, but they understood the value of education and encouraged me to work hard and to love learning.
“I am honoured to become a Harding Miller Foundation Scholar.
“I know I can make a positive contribution and difference; I want to use this opportunity as a way to inspire others around me.”
Applications for scholarships for 2023 open July 13 and close on September 14.
