‘Apprentice of Year’ after making move to roof plumbing, carpentry

KALIB Brown from Budget Roofing in Padstow has won the 2021 Banks Apprentice of the Year Award after switching trades.

He was working in the fencing industry but needed a change that would still allow him to pursue his studies – and that’s when the founder of Budget Roofing Greg Beaven offered him a job.
He’s now working as a roof plumbing and carpentry apprentice and his boss, Mr Beaven couldn’t be happier.
“Kalib shows initiative in the workplace and is a quick thinker and a quick learner,” he said.
“He has great leadership and team building skills and is committed to improving his abilities.
“He plays cricket and football in his spare time, and is an active member of the local community. He is a very worthy recipient of this award.”
Federal MP for Banks, David Coleman, is pictured presenting Kalib with the award.
This award was started in 2014 by Mr Coleman to recognise the valuable contributions that apprentices and trainees make in our local community.
“Apprentices and trainees do outstanding work in our community,” Mr Coleman said.
“This award provides recognition of this work and encourages continued participation in this industry.”
