Couple share secrets to 65 years of wedded bliss

HAPPILY spending practically a lifetime together, Stanley and Merle Wing have been celebrating their 65th ‘Blue Sapphire’ Wedding Anniversary with family and their friends in Donington Gardens at Georges Hall.

Marrying on February 2, 1957, in St Anne’s Church, Strathfield, the Wings retired to Georges Hall in 1975 after operating their own business Wing’s Glass in Fairfield.
Living in Cabramatta previously for 18 years, they raised three children – Philip, Sharron and Andrew – and now have six grandchildren including twins Sophie and Chloe.
Before marrying, Merle worked as a cashier and Stanley joined the CItizen’s Military Force (national service) in 1953, becoming an officer in 1958.
Moving to Donington Gardens seven years ago, they have made wonderful friends and are very happy with village life.
They say there is no secret to maintaining a long, happy marriage.
“You must have give and take, listen to each other and always be supportive,” they said.
“We want to thank our family, Donington Gardens friends and local MPs and officials, even the Queen, for their cards, flowers and well wishes.”
