Among them was Madison de Rozario, who won gold in the Paralympic T54 marathon and T53 800m, and bronze in the T54 1500m, and Jessica Fox, Olympic canoe slalom gold (C1) and kayak bronze medallist (K1), who shared the honours of being awarded the Office of Sport co-Female Athletes of the Year.
Minister for Sport, Natalie Ward, acknowledged the high calibre of award finalists and congratulated the winners.
“Our NSWIS-supported athletes delivered magnificent results on the world stage at the Olympics and Paralympics, with our 149 athletes winning 35 medals for Australia,” she said.
“They were instrumental in bringing so much joy at a time when we were in the midst of lockdown and looking for inspiration and hope.
“I’m a strong advocate for women in sport and the extraordinary feats of these two athletes should spur every girl to follow their sporting dreams.”
Former Granville resident and Australia’s most decorated female Paralympian, Ellie Cole, was awarded the Ian Thorpe AM Outstanding Achievement Award.
