State MP for East Hills Wendy Lindsay said the artwork concept is proposed for two locations – the station void and the Thompson Lane entry – and would incorporate stories from community members.
“The first element will be a mixture of coloured mosaic tiles while the second will capture quotes in ‘memory plaques’ celebrating the Georges River,” Ms Lindsay said.
“The plaques will be strategically placed at eye level so visitors to the station can see each one and take time to read the memories as they pass through the station.
“Transport for NSW has already started talking to local, historic and senior citizens groups but we really want the entire community to get involved and contribute. As a life-long local, I look forward to seeing the stories and histories of residents from the area.”
The station upgrade will provide access to people with a disability or limited mobility, parents and carers with prams, and customers with luggage, two new lifts connecting from the underpass to the station platforms, a refresh of the station entrance on Park Road, an upgrade of the two existing accessible parking spaces in the commuter car park, and also upgrades for improved access, better bathroom facilities, easier train boarding and overall safety.
Submissions are open until Friday, November 26 and the artwork will be installed early next year, while the station upgrade will be completed in 2023.
